Our New Home
On February 18, 2010, there was great rejoicing among the clergy and faithful as we made history by purchasing our own property. We began renovations on January 15, 2018 and have finally moved into our new home. Our Consecration date of July 23rd and 24th, 2021, marks the beginning of a new life for us. We appreciate your prayers and financial contributions.
We are seeking donations from both members and non-members. Our goal is to raise $100,000 between now and December 2021.
Included here are pictures showing side, front, and elevated views of Blue Prints and Plans of whats the completed Church might look like. The building was a shell with no electrical or plumbing. It was a solid cinder block structure with three floors and a basement. Each floor is 2,240 square feet. The property also had a three-car garage with 1,140 square feet. The garage was converted into a three-bedroom apartment for visiting Clergy.
Thanks are due to God, we officially completed our renovation plans in July 2021 after 11.5 years. We removed the third floor so that the original second and third floors are one and became the sanctuary with a high cathedral ceiling. On the same floor as the sanctuary, we have an altar with a changing room for the clergy and Bethlehem. We added an extension at the back of the building (by the garage) with an enclosed stairwell. The first floor has a social hall with a stage, commercial kitchen, pantry, and a wheelchair-accessible entrance and bathroom. The basement includes a large conference room, an office, classrooms, and bathrooms.
Now completed, this is the first Ethiopian Orthodox Church in North America built and operated by Ethiopians born in the West and who maintain the legacy of the Ancient Order of the Apostolic Faith. Services are held in English and Ge'ze, the classical language of the Church!
